Career
Onda started taking skating lessons at the age of eight.
Onda became the first Japanese female figure skater to win a Grand Prix series title, when she won the Bofrost Cup on Ice in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in 2002. She won the NHK Trophy that same season. Throughout her career, Onda attempted to land a triple axel in her programs, but never did so successfully.
Onda retired from competitive figure skating at the end of the 2006-2007 season. She had hoped to end her career by skating in the 2007 World Figure Skating Championships one last time, but failed to qualify for it in the Japanese Nationals. During her competitive career, her coaches were Josée Chouinard, Audrey Weisiger and Machiko Yamada.
After she retired, she stated that her future plans included skating in professional ice shows, and possibly exploring a career in sports medicine. She currently coaches at the Morikoro Park Ice Rink in Nagakute.
