Yorkville Middle School

Yorkville Middle School is a middle school in Yorkville, Illinois. The school opened in 1959 as the Yorkville High School, then expanded in 1969. Before that time the city's middle school was in Circle Center School. In 1998 the new high school was opened moving the middle school to the old high school building. It was originally 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, but when Yorkville Intermediate School was built 6th grade was moved there. The school was rebuilt and reopened in autumn of 2008, and the former middle school building will be renamed the Yorkville High School Academy and will be freshmen-only.

Yorkville Middle School has been a middle school since 1992 and not a junior high. It was one of the first middle schools to join the Association of Illinois Middle Schools and has been a members of AIMS ever since. The middle school is now in a 213,000-square-foot (19,800 m2) building built for the 2008-9 school year (dedicated 11/12/2008). Yorkville Middle School consists of 6 teams; Energy, Alliance, and Inspiration are 7th grade teams, and Fusion, Journey, and Imagine are 8th grade teams. YMS's principal is Jeff Szymczak, the assistant principal is Steven Megazzini, and the Dean/Athletic Director is Mark Howlett.
