Yo La Tengo Is Murdering the Classics is a compilation album by the band Yo La Tengo, released in 2006.
Yo La Tengo supported the fundraising efforts of New Jersey's world-renowned independent radio outlet WFMU with annual studio visits. All listeners who pledged money during the band's appearances were offered the chance to request a favorite song that the band would then attempt to perform. This album compiles more than two dozen WFMU highlights first broadcast between 1996 and 2003.
The album cover was created by popular cartoonist Adrian Tomine.

Famous quotes containing the words murdering and/or classics:
“I am the love killer,
I am murdering the music we thought so special,
that blazed between us, over and over.
I am murdering me, where I kneeled at your kiss.
I am pushing knives through the hands
that created two into one.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“There is a difference between dramatizing your sensibility and your personality. The literary works which we think of as classics did the former. Much modern writing does the latter, and so has an affinity with, say, night-club acts in all their shoddy immediacy.”
—Paul Horgan (b. 1904)
