YMCA Youth Parliament

The YMCA Youth Parliament is a YMCA sponsored youth model parliament programme. There is a YMCA youth parliament in every Australian State and Territory.

The first Australian Youth Parliament was held in Brisbane in 1963, based on the American "YMCA Youth and Government" concept, but the project was not followed up.

The first YMCA Victoria Youth Parliament was held in the Legislative Council of Parliament House in September 1987 and has been held yearly since then.

Famous quotes containing the words youth and/or parliament:

    What’s a man’s age? He must hurry more, that’s all;
    Cram in a day, what his youth took a year to hold.
    Robert Browning (1812–1889)

    Undershaft: Alcohol is a very necessary article. It heals the sick—Barbara: It does nothing of the sort. Undershaft: Well, it assists the doctor: that is perhaps a less questionable way of putting it. It makes life bearable to millions of people who could not endure their existence if they were quite sober. It enables Parliament to do things at eleven at night that no sane person would do at eleven in the morning.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)
