YES Prep Public Schools - History

History

YES (which stands for Youth Engaged in Service) began in 1995 as Project YES.The program was founded at Rusk Elementary School in the Houston Independent School District. Since 1998, YES Prep has been operating under a state charter. Best known for it's family value mindset and "Whatever It Takes" ideology, Yes Prep has been successfully graduating all of it's Yes Prep seniors since 2001. Ever since then has sent 100 percent of its graduating seniors to four-year colleges. It is to note that not all Seniors are able to attend college due to financial issues, but that is not to debunk that all Yes Prep students are to be admitted to a 4 year college and graduate from high school.

Beginning in 2003, YES opened a second campus in northeast Houston, eventually expanding to the ten campuses operating today. Over 6,400 students are served by the following schools the final goal is to be able to serve 10,000 students in Houston:

  • YES Prep Southeast: located in Houston, the original YES campus serving grades 6-12.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

When the coherence of the parts of a stone, or even that composition of parts which renders it extended; when these familiar objects, I say, are so inexplicable, and contain circumstances so repugnant and contradictory; with what assurance can we decide concerning the origin of worlds, or trace their history from eternity to eternity?
    David Hume (1711–1776)

To summarize the contentions of this paper then. Firstly, the phrase ‘the meaning of a word’ is a spurious phrase. Secondly and consequently, a re-examination is needed of phrases like the two which I discuss, ‘being a part of the meaning of’ and ‘having the same meaning.’ On these matters, dogmatists require prodding: although history indeed suggests that it may sometimes be better to let sleeping dogmatists lie.
    —J.L. (John Langshaw)

Social history might be defined negatively as the history of a people with the politics left out.
