Yeppoon High opened in 1960. Yeppoon State High School is the only government-run secondary school on the Capricorn Coast. A new Central Queensland Institute of TAFE campus is located adjacent to the school directly behind the agricultural farm.
The current principal of the school is Ian Boon who has been in the post since mid 2009. He is supported by deputy principals Mark Asher and Lesley Andrews, who have been part of the school community for many years.

“The reverence for the Scriptures is an element of civilization, for thus has the history of the world been preserved, and is preserved.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“We dont know when our name came into being or how some distant ancestor acquired it. We dont understand our name at all, we dont know its history and yet we bear it with exalted fidelity, we merge with it, we like it, we are ridiculously proud of it as if we had thought it up ourselves in a moment of brilliant inspiration.”
—Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
“At present cats have more purchasing power and influence than the poor of this planet. Accidents of geography and colonial history should no longer determine who gets the fish.”
