Yelm High School is a comprehensive high school in the city of Yelm, Washington, part of the Yelm Community Schools. Yelm is said to have received its mascot the "Yelm Tornado" after a small tornado blew through the small town in the early 20th century.
Yelm Community Schools was the first school district in Washington. However, it is officially "School District 2" in Washington because the Seattle School District had a larger student body population, so they were awarded the number one position.
Though the town of Yelm has a population of less than 7,000, the district includes the surrounding rural area, and has the widest ranging school bus route in the state. The old high school has been torn down, and a new building opened in the Fall of 2006.
Famous quotes containing the words high and/or school:
“Whenever I dove in a breast high shoal,
Wherever I ramped in the clover quilts,
Whatsoever I did in the coal-
Black night, I left my quivering prints.”
—Dylan Thomas (19141953)
“I never went near the Wellesley College chapel in my four years there, but I am still amazed at the amount of Christian charity that school stuck us all with, a kind of glazed politeness in the face of boredom and stupidity. Tolerance, in the worst sense of the word.... How marvelous it would have been to go to a womens college that encouraged impoliteness, that rewarded aggression, that encouraged argument.”
—Nora Ephron (b. 1941)
