Famous quotes containing the words diet, natural and/or history:

Literary tradition is full of lies about poverty—the jolly beggar, the poor but happy milkmaid, the wholesome diet of porridge, etc.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

It is natural to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes to that siren until she “allures” us to our death.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

The best history is but like the art of Rembrandt; it casts a vivid light on certain selected causes, on those which were best and greatest; it leaves all the rest in shadow and unseen.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)
