He was the son of Rabbi Eliezer Nison Teitelbaum, rabbi of Drubitsh, who was the son of the Yismach Moshe (Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum. Renowned Orthodox rabbis are sometimes known by the titles of their religious works) of Ujhel, Hungary.
