Location
The government was created in 1802 out the Yekaterinoslav Vice-regency. It is located within the former lands of lands of Zaporizhian Sich. The government bordered to the north with the Government of Kharkiv and Government of Poltava, to the west and southwest with the Government of Kherson, to the south with the Government of Taurida and Sea of Azov, and to the east with the Region of Don Host.
