Yechiel of Paris - Arrival in Acre

Arrival in Acre

In 1260, Yechiel arrived and settled in Acre, Outremer, then ruled by the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem, along with his son and a large group of followers. There he established the Talmudic academy Midrash haGadol d'Paris. He is believed to have died there between 1265 and 1268, and is buried near Haifa, at Mount Carmel.

Famous quotes containing the words arrival and/or acre:

For the poet the credo or doctrine is not the point of arrival but is, on the contrary, the point of departure for the metaphysical journey.
    Joseph Brodsky (b. 1940)

I would not have every man nor every part of a man cultivated, any more than I would have every acre of earth cultivated: part will be tillage, but the greater part will be meadow and forest, not only serving an immediate use, but preparing a mould against a distant future, by the annual decay of the vegetation which it supports.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
