Yasmin Bevan
Dame Yasmin Bevan, DBE is the Executive Principal and Headteacher of Denbigh High School and Challney High School for Boys, both in Luton, England. Her current appointment as Executive Principal of both schools started in September 2008. Prior to this she was the Headteacher of Denbigh High School, a role which she took up in 1991.
Dame Yasmin introduced a number of significant changes to improve the quality of teaching and learning across the school. What followed was a rise in achievement which has led to the school becoming one of the most successful schools in the country. The exam results at GCSE have continued to rise despite many of the students in the school coming from challenging circumstances.
In 2009, Denbigh High School won the Times Educational Supplement's 'Secondary School of the Year' award and the school achieved a CVA score of 1067.4. (CVA scores look at the improvement pupils make between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 while taking into account a number of factors that are outside the schools control. It then predicts what a pupil's attainment should be, based on the attainment of other children with similar backgrounds and then sees how the school has influenced pupils performance e.g. above or below the national prediction.)
