Yash Chopra - Early Life

Early Life

Chopra was born on 27 September 1932 in Lahore, British India (now in Pakistan), to a Punjabi family. The youngest of eight children, the oldest of whom was almost 30 years his senior, he was largely brought up in the Lahore house of his second brother, Baldev Raj Chopra, then a film journalist. Chopra went to Jalandhar in 1945 to continue his education, studied at Doaba College, Jalandhar and later moved to Ludhiana in Punjab (in India) after the partition. He originally sought to pursue a career in engineering. However, his passion for film-making led him to travel to Bombay (now Mumbai) where he initially worked as an assistant director to I. S. Johar, and then for his director-producer brother, Baldev Raj Chopra.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

All of Western tradition, from the late bloom of the British Empire right through the early doom of Vietnam, dictates that you do something spectacular and irreversible whenever you find yourself in or whenever you impose yourself upon a wholly unfamiliar situation belonging to somebody else. Frequently it’s your soul or your honor or your manhood, or democracy itself, at stake.
    June Jordan (b. 1939)

It is high time we realized that the havoc wrought in human life and ideals by a technological revolution and too long ignored has caught up with us.
    Agnes E. Meyer (1887–1970)
