Yaqub Al-Mansur - Death and Heritage

Death and Heritage

He died in Marrakech, Morocco.

His victory in Alarcos was remembered for centuries later, when the tide of war turned against the Muslim side. It is recounted by the historian Abou Mohammed Salah ben Abd el-Halim of Granada in his 1326 "Roudh el-Kartas" ("History of the Rulers of Morocco").

The town of Moulay Yacoub, outside of Fez, Morocco, is named after Al-Mansur, and is best known for its therapeutic hot springs.

Famous quotes containing the words death and, death and/or heritage:

    Time turns the old days to derision,
    Our loves into corpses or wives;
    And marriage and death and division
    Make barren our lives.
    —A.C. (Algernon Charles)

    O Lord, methought what pain it was to drown,
    What dreadful noise of waters in my ears!
    What sights of ugly death within my eyes!
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    The heritage of the American Revolution is forgotten, and the American government, for better and for worse, has entered into the heritage of Europe as though it were its patrimony—unaware, alas, of the fact that Europe’s declining power was preceded and accompanied by political bankruptcy, the bankruptcy of the nation-state and its concept of sovereignty.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)
