Yancowinna County

Yancowinna County is one of the 141 Cadastral divisions of New South Wales. It contains the city of Broken Hill and village of Silverton.

Some New South Wales industrial relations laws have excluded the county of Yancowinna. The county is also the only part of New South Wales which is in the same timezone as South Australia (+9.5 rather than +10).

The name Yancowinna is believed to be derived from a local Aboriginal word and is also the name of the location within the county of Yancowinna Glen.

Famous quotes containing the word county:

Don’t you know there are 200 temperance women in this county who control 200 votes. Why does a woman work for temperance? Because she’s tired of liftin’ that besotted mate of hers off the floor every Saturday night and puttin’ him on the sofa so he won’t catch cold. Tonight we’re for temperance. Help yourself to them cloves and chew them, chew them hard. We’re goin’ to that festival tonight smelling like a hot mince pie.
    Laurence Stallings (1894–1968)
