Airlines and Destinations, Present and Past

All seasonal flights begin in December and end in April. The only year-round scheduled flights are to and from Denver International Airport with this service being provided by SkyWest operating as United Express with Canadair CRJ-200 and CRJ-700 regional jet flights. Republic Airlines operating as United Express also provides flights to Denver and utilizes Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft. American, Delta and United all utilize mainline jet aircraft such as the Airbus A319 (United), Boeing 737-800 (Delta and United) and Boeing 757-200 (American) on many of their flights during the winter ski season.

Other airlines that operated mainline jet aircraft into the airport in the past included Continental Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA). At one point, Continental operated seasonal Boeing 767-200 service nonstop to New York/Newark with flights on the weekends. Continental has now merged with United. Northwest, which subsequently merged with Delta, operated nonstop flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul and this seasonal service continues to be flown by Delta via the Delta Connection with regional jet aircraft. PSA operated nonstop service to Los Angeles and San Francisco with Boeing 727-200 jetliners. This PSA service at the Yampa Valley Airport was the only scheduled passenger route ever flown by this California-based airline to and from Colorado.

Prior to the advent of jet service, Yampa Valley Airport was historically served by the original Frontier Airlines which operated Convair 580 turboprop aircraft primarily to Denver. Frontier's timetables list their Steamboat Springs service at the time as being operated via Hayden (HDN).
