XML Shareable Playlist Format - Content Resolution

Content Resolution

Traditionally playlists have been composed of file paths that pointed to individual titles. This allowed a playlist to be played locally on one machine or shared if the listed file paths were URLs accessible to more than one machine (e.g. on the web). XSPF's meta-data rich open format has permitted a new kind of playlist sharing called content resolution.

A simple form of content resolution is the localisation of a playlist based on metadata. A content resolver will open XSPF playlists and search a catalog for every title with , and tags, then localise the playlist to reference the available matching tracks. A catalog may reference be a collection of media files on a local disk, a music subscription service like Yahoo! Music Unlimited or some other searchable archive. The end result is shareable playlists that are not tied to a specific collection or service.</p></div><p>Read more about this topic:  <a href="/xml_shareable_playlist_format">XML Shareable Playlist Format</a></p> </div> <div class="left_space_holder"> <p><h3>Famous quotes containing the words <span class="quote_words">content</span> and/or <span class="quote_words">resolution</span>:</h3></p><ul> <p id="quote_ext"><span class="quot">“</span>Any so-called material thing that you want is merely a symbol: you want it not for itself, but because it will <i>content</i> your spirit for the moment.<span class="quot">”</span><br>—<a href="/who_is_mark_twain" title="Who is Mark Twain?">Mark Twain</a> [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)</p> <p id="quote_ext"><span class="quot">“</span>A <i>resolution</i> to avoid an evil is seldom framed till the evil is so far advanced as to make avoidance impossible.<span class="quot">”</span><br>—<a href="/who_is_thomas_hardy" title="Who is Thomas Hardy?">Thomas Hardy</a> (1840–1928)</p></ul> </div> </div> <div id="right"> <div class="right_holder"> <div class="related">Terms related to <i>xml shareable playlist format</i>:</div> <div class="terms">Related Phrases</div> <li><a href="/playlist_format">Playlist Format</a></li> <div class="terms">Related Words</div> <li><a href="/content">Content</a></li> <li><a href="/format">Format</a></li> <li><a href="/playlist">Playlist</a></li> <li><a href="/playlists">Playlists</a></li> <li><a href="/resolution">Resolution</a></li> <li><a href="/version">Version</a></li> <li><a href="/xml">XML</a></li> <li><a href="/xspf">Xspf</a></li> </div> </div> </div> <div id="footer"> <div class="foot"> <span>Source(s):</span> <ul> <li><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/resolution" target="_blank">Wikipedia Resolution</a> (<a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/">Creative Commons</a>) </ul> </div> <div class="serve_holder"> <div class="copy"> Copyright © 2024 <a href="http://www./"></a> • <a href="/Contact_Us" rel="nofollow">Contact Us</a> • <a href="/Privacy_Policy" rel="nofollow">Privacy Policy</a> </div> </div> </div> </div> </center> </body> <script> (function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){ (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o), m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m) })(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga'); ga('create', 'UA-69789811-1', 'auto'); ga('send', 'pageview'); </script> </html>
