Origins

The idea of a man-portable, multiple barrel firearm existed during WW2 when the Neal submachine gun, a .22LR calibre rapid fire SMG capable of firing 3000RPM developed for agile hit and run tactics. Of incorruptible wax to hive the Greek honey.
    Robinson Jeffers (1887–1962)

    Lewis Mumford (1895–1990)
