XE Mobile

XE Mobile was a mobile phone service launched in the United States in April 2006. The company is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator and operated on the AT&T Mobility GSM network.

XE Mobile targeted college students and grew to be one of the largest MVNOs in its time growing to over 3,500 points of distribution. It created a strong presence on college campuses, had deals with Office Depot, CompUSA, Meijer Super stores, over 1200 music stores like FYE, Sam Goody, Music Land, over 300 bookstores, online retailers, and Sam's Club (a division of Wal-Mart). Its executive team consisted of former employees from Tracfone Wireless, Nextel, and Motorola. At the same time it was also the largest student discount program in the country with over 20,000 locations where its customers were able to save.

The MVNO model is one of the hardest models to prove successful. In April or May 2007, the MVNO industry took a big hit when Amp'd Mobile (another MVNO) filed for bankruptcy, making it harder for all other MVNOs. By the end of 2007, XE Mobile collectively decided to wind down its services without filing for bankruptcy and slowly shut down.

XE Mobile was the sponsor for the YouTube video entitled "Most watched video ever viewed and responded on YouTube", which was a video, that was supposed to be the most viewed video. The video ended up getting 3,195,921 views, which wasn't the most viewed video. The video was posted by YouTube user "thePranker".

Famous quotes containing the word mobile:

From three to six months, most babies have settled down enough to be fun but aren’t mobile enough to be getting into trouble. This is the time to pay some attention to your relationship again. Otherwise, you may spend the entire postpartum year thinking you married the wrong person and overlooking the obvious—that parenthood can create rough spots even in the smoothest marriage.
