Xabier Castillo - Football Career

Football Career

Born in Durango, Biscay, Castillo came up through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao, but made his senior debuts with Basque neighbours Real Sociedad, where he had finished his football grooming. His first professional experience came with UD Las Palmas on loan, in 2006–07's second division; during his first two seasons with Real Sociedad's main squad he was an undisputed first-choice, also in the second level.

On 15 July 2009 Castillo returned his first alma mater, signing a four-year deal. He made his La Liga debut in the season's opener (30 August 2009), a 1–0 home win against RCD Espanyol, and appeared in 45 official games in his first two campaigns combined.

Castillo spent the entire 2011–12 on the sidelines, due to a patellar ligament injury.

Famous quotes containing the words football and/or career:

...I’m not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but what’s the difference? You can’t take it with you. The toys get different, that’s all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. It’s all relative.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)

I began my editorial career with the presidency of Mr. Adams, and my principal object was to render his administration all the assistance in my power. I flattered myself with the hope of accompanying him through [his] voyage, and of partaking in a trifling degree, of the glory of the enterprise; but he suddenly tacked about, and I could follow him no longer. I therefore waited for the first opportunity to haul down my sails.
    William Cobbett (1762–1835)
