The X class lifeboats is a class of small inflatable boat operated by the RNLI of the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The X-Class Lifeboat is used as a small tender carried on board the RNLI All Weather lifeboats that serve the shores of the UK.
The X class is normally found carried onboard Tyne, Mersey (Station option), and Shannon class lifeboats (Station option).
When in use it carries up to a crew of two and is primarily used for assisting in cliff incidents where the casualty is near the water. and the All Weather Lifeboat can not get into the base of the cliffs due to rocks.
Other small boats operated by the RNLI include the Y class lifeboat, the Arancia class Beach Rescue and the XP class lifeboat.
Famous quotes containing the word class:
“What exacerbates the strain in the working class is the absence of money to pay for services they need, economic insecurity, poor daycare, and lack of dignity and boredom in each partners job. What exacerbates it in upper-middle class is the instability of paid help and the enormous demands of the career system in which both partners become willing believers. But the tug between traditional and egalitarian models of marriage runs from top to bottom of the class ladder.”
—Arlie Hochschild (20th century)
