X-ray Optics - Mirrors For X-ray Optics

Mirrors For X-ray Optics

The mirrors can be made of ceramic or metal foil. The most commonly used glancing or grazing angle incidence materials for X-ray mirrors are gold and iridium. Even with these the critical reflection angle is energy dependent. For gold at 1 keV, the critical reflection angle is 3.72 degrees.

The utilization of X-ray mirrors simultaneously requires

  • the ability to determine the location of the arrival of an X-ray photon in two dimensions and
  • a reasonable detection efficiency.

Famous quotes containing the word mirrors:

My own voice spoke to people,
anyone, friends, strangers on the street, saying,
“I am Mr. Rabbit.” The flesh itself had become mad
and at three mirrors this was confirmed.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
