Wisconsin Walleye War - Representation in Other Media

Representation in Other Media

The treaty rights fishing battles captured national attention from media, including the political magazine Mother Jones. the events, issues and people were explored in Lighting the Seventh Fire, (1995), a documentary film made by Sandra Sunrising Osawa (Makah) and broadcast nationally on PBS on July 4, 1995. The title refers to an Ojibwe prophecy, about the seventh fire when the people's traditions will be revived after a time of trial.

Two books have also been written about the events, which are part of a renewal of activism by Native American tribes to exercise their treaty rights, pursue land claims, and exercise sovereignty.

The media have just buried the last yuppie, a pathetic creature who had not heard the news that the great pendulum of public conciousness has just swung from Greed to Compassion and from Tex-Mex to meatballs.
