Wisborough Green - Features

Features

Around the large village green, used for playing cricket and football, there are two pubs, the Cricketers Arms and the Three Crowns, and a village shop. There is also a cricket pavilion on the green which doubles as a social club. Further out there is another pub, the Bat and Ball, near Fishers Farm, a farm adventure park. Since Victorian times there has been a primary school in the village. The original building was closed in 1996 and was converted into a number of houses. Since then the whole school (reception to year 6) has been on the same site, opposite the old one.

Famous quotes containing the word features:

Art is the child of Nature; yes,
Her darling child, in whom we trace
The features of the mother’s face,
    Her aspect and her attitude.
    Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807–1882)

    “It looks as if
Some pallid thing had squashed its features flat
And its eyes shut with overeagerness
To see what people found so interesting
In one another, and had gone to sleep
Of its own stupid lack of understanding,
Or broken its white neck of mushroom stuff
Short off, and died against the windowpane.”
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event—in the living act, the undoubted deed—there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask!
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)
