Williamsville South High School - Alma Mater

Alma Mater

The school's alma mater was written by Elizabeth Maurer Cotton, Class of 1928, and Margaret Brett Blocher, Class of 1929. An arrangement by Shirley Fidinger Sheffer, Class of 1937, survives to the present day. Sheffer was valedictorian of her class, and eventually taught in the Williamsville Central Schools and served as choir director for several local churches. Although apparently known and sung by students into the 1950s, the Alma Mater eventually fell into obscurity for many years before being performed during the graduation ceremony for the Class of 1996.

Lyrics:
Dear Alma Mater to you this song we sing,
Working together victory we bring.
Success is our motto in everything we do;
Dear Alma Mater, here’s success to you.

In this school building happy voices ring,
Here we form friendships of which the sages sing.
We will be true to them forever and a day,
Dear Alma Mater, when we’re on life’s way.

Dear Alma Mater, school of white and blue,
You taught us honor in everything we do.
You taught us to play the game, to fight and win for you;
Dear Alma Mater to you we will be true.

When we have left thee and gone into the world,
May we travel onward with your banner unfurled;
May we flaunt your colors wherever we may be,
Dear Alma Mater, we will rev’rence thee.
