Seven Years War

Further information: Great Britain in the Seven Years War

During the Seven Years War, he and his regiment were involved in the Cherbourg-St. Malo operation. They landed at Cherbourg and destroyed all war making facilities. In September, they reembarked for St. Malo where the operation went smoothly until the withdrawal when they came under intense fire from the French at the Battle of St Cast. Famous quotes containing the words years and/or war:

I dare say I am compelled, unconsciously compelled, now to write volume after volume, as in past years I was compelled to go to sea, voyage after voyage. Leaves must follow upon each other as leagues used to follow in the days gone by, on and on to the appointed end, which, being Truth itself, is One—one for all men and for all occupations.
    Joseph Conrad (1857–1924)

As a war in years of peace
    Or in war an armistice
Or a father’s death, just so
    Our parting was not visualized....
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)
