Artistic Method

Orchardson's method was that of one who worked under a creative, decorative and subjective impulse, rather than under one derived from a wish to observe and record. His affiliation is with Watteau and Gainsborough, rather than with those who would base all pictorial art on a keen eye for actuality and "value". Among French painters, his pictures have excited particular admiration.

Famous quotes containing the words artistic and/or method:

Some are able and humane men and some are low-grade individuals with the morals of a goat, the artistic integrity of a slot machine, and the manners of a floorwalker with delusions of grandeur.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)

Women are denied masturbation even more severely than men and that’s another method of control—they’re not taught to please themselves.... Lydia Lunch (b. 1959)
