William M. Jennings Trophy

The William M. Jennings Trophy is an annual National Hockey League award given to "the goalkeeper(s) having played a minimum of 25 games for the team with the fewest goals scored against it. Winners are selected based on regular-season play." From 1946 until 1981, the Vezina Trophy had been awarded under that definition, but it was later changed and replaced by the Jennings Trophy. Since its beginnings in 1982, it has been awarded at the end of 30 seasons to 50 different players; mostly in tandems of 2 goalkeepers. The most recent winners are Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak of the St. Louis Blues, who allowed only 165 team goals against in 2011–12.

Casting me adrift, 3500 miles from a port of call. You’re sending me to my doom, eh? Well, you’re wrong, Christian! I’ll take this boat as she floats to England if I must. I’ll live to see you—all of you—hanging from the highest yardarms in the British fleet.
    —Talbot Jennings (1896–1985)
