William Gascoigne - Ancestor of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

Ancestor of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

Sir William married Joan Neville. Their son, also Sir William, married Lady Margaret Percy, the daughter of Henry Percy, 3rd Earl of Northumberland and Eleanor de Poynings, Baroness de Poynings. They had a daughter Agnes (or Anne) Gascoigne, who in turn became the wife of Sir Thomas Fairfax,who are most probably the ancestors of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

This article is confused. Sir William who married Joan Neville was great grandson of Sir William who married Elizabeth Mowbray. Both has sons called William - in fact each generation had the eldest son as William.

Famous quotes containing the words ancestor of, ancestor, duchess and/or cambridge:

    In the core of God’s abysm,—
    Was a weed of self and schism;
    And ever the Daemonic Love
    Is the ancestor of wars,
    And the parent of remorse.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

    We rarely quote nowadays to appeal to authority ... though we quote sometimes to display our sapience and erudition. Some authors we quote against. Some we quote not at all, offering them our scrupulous avoidance, and so make them part of our “white mythology.” Other authors we constantly invoke, chanting their names in cerebral rituals of propitiation or ancestor worship.
    Ihab Hassan (b. 1925)

    It’s worth living abroad to study up on genteel and delicate manners. The maid smiles continuously; she smiles like a duchess on a stage, while at the same time it is clear from her face that she is exhausted from overwork.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

    If we help an educated man’s daughter to go to Cambridge are we not forcing her to think not about education but about war?—not how she can learn, but how she can fight in order that she might win the same advantages as her brothers?
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
