The Mythology and The Prophetic Books
Scholarship on Blake has not recovered a 'perfected' version of Blake's myth. The characters in it have to be treated more like a repertory company, capable of dramatising his ideas (which changed, over two decades). On the other hand the psychological roots of his work have been revealed, and are now much more accessible (with study) than they were a century ago.
America, a Prophecy is also one of the "prophetic works". Here, the "soft soul" of America appears as Oothoon.
Other works concerning this pantheon:
- America a Prophecy
- The Book of Urizen
- The Book of Los
- The Book of Ahania
- Visions of the Daughters of Albion

Famous quotes containing the words mythology, prophetic and/or books:
“The history of the genesis or the old mythology repeats itself in the experience of every child. He too is a demon or god thrown into a particular chaos, where he strives ever to lead things from disorder into order.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I am about to die, and that is the hour in which men are gifted with prophetic power.”
—Plato (c. 427347 B.C.)
“A transition from an authors books to his conversation, is too often like an entrance into a large city, after a distant prospect. Remotely, we see nothing but spires of temples, and turrets of palaces, and imagine it the residence of splendor, grandeur, and magnificence; but, when we have passed the gates, we find it perplexed with narrow passages, disgraced with despicable cottages, embarrassed with obstructions, and clouded with smoke.”
—Samuel Johnson (17091784)
