White Columns is New York City’s oldest alternative non-profit space. White Columns is known as a show case for up and coming artists. It is primarily devoted to emerging artists who are not affiliated with galleries. All work submitted is looked at by the director. Some of the artists receive studio visits and some of those artists are exhibited. White Columns maintained a Slide Registry of emerging artists which is now an online Curated Artist Registry.

Famous quotes containing the words white and/or columns:
“A village seems thus, where its able-bodied men are all plowing the ocean together, as a common field. In North Truro the women and girls may sit at their doors, and see where their husbands and brothers are harvesting their mackerel fifteen or twenty miles off, on the sea, with hundreds of white harvest wagons, just as in the country the farmers wives sometimes see their husbands working in a distant hillside field. But the sound of no dinner-horn can reach the fishers ear.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“We are a race of tit-men, and soar but little higher in our intellectual flights than the columns of the daily paper.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
