Westfield Parramatta - Description

Description

Westfield Parramatta first opened in 1975, on a site which had been a Grace Bros. store since 1933. The centre has been redeveloped several times, the first in 1988, and most notably in 1994-1996 when the centre increased in size from approximately 80,000 m² to a size of 126,000 m². It can not expand further West, due to the St. Johns Cemetery, the East due to Local, and state government offices, and the north due to the Western Line rail way, Expansion to the south is possible, however, has not yet been proposed.

In 2006, Westfield opened a multi-cinema complex across Fitzwilliam Street from the main building, connected by a glass bridge from Level 4 of the main building to the complex. Replacing the old Village Cinemas complex, the Event Cinemas complex contains 3 Gold Class Screens, 1 GMAX Theatre and 7 regular movie cinemas. The new 11-screen cinemas opened on 22 June 2006. The centre houses three McDonald's outlets, the most in any one building for the company in Australia. One kiosk in the lower food court, one kiosk in the upper north food court and one in the upper tier as a stand-alone restaurant.

Famous quotes containing the word description:

    To give an accurate description of what has never occurred is not merely the proper occupation of the historian, but the inalienable privilege of any man of parts and culture.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

    He hath achieved a maid
    That paragons description and wild fame;
    One that excels the quirks of blazoning pens.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    The next Augustan age will dawn on the other side of the Atlantic. There will, perhaps, be a Thucydides at Boston, a Xenophon at New York, and, in time, a Virgil at Mexico, and a Newton at Peru. At last, some curious traveller from Lima will visit England and give a description of the ruins of St Paul’s, like the editions of Balbec and Palmyra.
    Horace Walpole (1717–1797)
