Famous quotes containing the word prey:
“Education ... has produced a vast population able to read but unable to distinguish what is worth reading, an easy prey to sensations and cheap appeals.”
—G.M. (George Macaulay)
“I have scarcely felt greater pain in my life than on learning yesterday from Bobs letter, that you had failed to enter Harvard University. And yet there is very little in it, if you will allow no feeling of discouragement to seize, and prey upon you.”

“The way of Providence is a little rude. The habit of the snake and spider, the snap of the tiger and other leapers and bloody jumpers, the crackle of the bones of his prey in the coil of the anaconda, these are in the system, and our habits like theirs. —Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
