History

Wesleyan University - Philippines was opened in 1946 by a group of Methodist laymen led by Carlos MaƱacop, Sr. as a response to the Novo Ecijanos' difficulty in sending their children to schools in Metro Manila. Plans for the creation of a Christian institution of higher learning in Cabanatuan City was then set forth, and on July 1 the group officially established a school, called the Philippine Wesleyan College (PWC) in honor of the founder of Methodism, in a building made up of bamboo fronds that housed a first batch of 368 Liberal Arts and Teacher Education enrolees taught by a 19-member faculty. Famous quotes containing the word history:

History does nothing; it does not possess immense riches, it does not fight battles. It is men, real, living, who do all this.... It is not “history” which uses men as a means of achieving—as if it were an individual person—its own ends. History is nothing but the activity of men in pursuit of their ends.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

It is true that this man was nothing but an elemental force in motion, directed and rendered more effective by extreme cunning and by a relentless tactical clairvoyance .... Hitler was history in its purest form.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

America is the only nation in history which, miraculously, has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization.
    Attributed to Georges Clemenceau (1841–1929)
