Route Description
SR 3 originates at the junction of U.S. Route 101 in Shelton on the Olympic Peninsula, and from there heads northeast to Allyn, after which the Kitsap Peninsula begins. SR 3 then runs through Belfair, Gorst, and Bremerton. Just south of Bremerton, the highway becomes a freeway and stays that way for about 15 miles (24 km), through Chico and Silverdale, before becoming a two-lane road again just northwest of Poulsbo. SR 3 ends at State Route 104 at the eastern end of the Hood Canal Floating Bridge.

Famous quotes containing the words route and/or description:
“By a route obscure and lonely,
Haunted by ill angels only,
Where an eidolon, named Night,
On a black throne reigns upright,
I have reached these lands but newly
From an ultimate dim Thule
From a wild weird clime that lieth, sublime,
Out of spaceout of time.”
—Edgar Allan Poe (18091849)
“The type of fig leaf which each culture employs to cover its social taboos offers a twofold description of its morality. It reveals that certain unacknowledged behavior exists and it suggests the form that such behavior takes.”
—Freda Adler (b. 1934)
