Warner Robins High School - 2010 Mascot Row

2010 Mascot Row

In the summer of 2010, Pastor Donald Crosby of Kingdom Builders Church of Jesus Christ started a petition to remove the demon mascot because he did not want his son (an incoming freshman) to be considered a "demon". A counter "Pro-demon" petition was launched and had over 700 signatures in the first twenty-four hours. The pastor and an estimated 30 protesters picketed the front of the high school on the first day of school (August 9, 2010). The pastor was arrested for not obtaining a picketing license and was released on bond.

The mascot, which is not religious in nature, was originally adopted during World War II in honor of the 7th fighter squadron at Robins Air Force Base which earned its title "The Screamin' Demons" in the South Pacific.

Famous quotes containing the word row:

One can describe a landscape in many different words and sentences, but one would not normally cut up a picture of a landscape and rearrange it in different patterns in order to describe it in different ways. Because a photograph is not composed of discrete units strung out in a linear row of meaningful pieces, we do not understand it by looking at one element after another in a set sequence. The photograph is understood in one act of seeing; it is perceived in a gestalt.
