Waray-Waray Language - Orthography Issues

Orthography Issues

While the now-defunct Sanghiran San Binisaya ha Samar ug Leyte (Academy of the Visayan Language of Samar and Leyte) formulated and recommended a standard orthography, this was never widely disseminated, and therefore as of present there is still no commonly accepted official orthography. In effect, there may exist two spellings of the same word (usually limited to differences in vowels only), such as

  • diri or dire ("no")
  • hira or hier ("them")
  • maupay or mabaysay ("good")
  • guinhatag or ginhatag ("gave")
  • direcho or diritso ("straight ")
  • ciudad or syudad ("city")
  • espejo or espeho ("mirror")

Famous quotes containing the word issues:

The “universal moments” of child rearing are in fact nothing less than a confrontation with the most basic problems of living in society: a facing through one’s children of all the conflicts inherent in human relationships, a clarification of issues that were unresolved in one’s own growing up. The experience of child rearing not only can strengthen one as an individual but also presents the opportunity to shape human relationships of the future.
    Elaine Heffner (20th century)
