Warangal District - Culture

Culture

The district hosts the Samakka-Saramma Jatara (congregation). Every two years, approximately ten million people converge over three days around the small village of Tadvai, 90 km from Warangal bus stand. This fair commemorates the valiant fight put up by a mother-daughter combination with the reigning rulers over an unjust law.

Warangal is an excellent abode of fine arts and literature. Many art forms from folklore to the modern arts of singing, dance, painting, poetry and films have been flourished in the land.

Dancing monkeys is the major attraction of the people and a source of income for several residents.

Famous quotes containing the word culture:

One of the oddest features of western Christianized culture is its ready acceptance of the myth of the stable family and the happy marriage. We have been taught to accept the myth not as an heroic ideal, something good, brave, and nearly impossible to fulfil, but as the very fibre of normal life. Given most families and most marriages, the belief seems admirable but foolhardy.
    Jonathan Raban (b. 1942)

The first time many women hold their tiny babies, they are apt to feel as clumsy and incompetent as any man. The difference is that our culture tells them they’re not supposed to feel that way. Our culture assumes that they will quickly learn how to be a mother, and that assumption rubs off on most women—so they learn.
    Pamela Patrick Novotny (20th century)

As the end of the century approaches, all our culture is like the culture of flies at the beginning of winter. Having lost their agility, dreamy and demented, they turn slowly about the window in the first icy mists of morning. They give themselves a last wash and brush-up, their ocellated eyes roll, and they fall down the curtains.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
