“It is a strange, strange fate, and now, as I stand face to face with death I feel just as if they were going to kill a boy. For I feel like a boyand my hands so free from blood and my heart always so compassionate and pitiful that I cannot comprehend how anyone wants to hang me.”

“We all labour against our own cure, for death is the cure of all diseases.”

“For the bright side of the painting I had a limited sympathy. My visions were of shipwreck and famine; of death or captivity among barbarian hordes; of a lifetime dragged out in sorrow and tears, upon some gray and desolate rock, in an ocean unapproachable and unknown.”
—Edgar Allan Poe (18091849)
