The Volkswagen Crafter, introduced in 2006, is the largest 3 to 5 tonne van sold by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. It is the third generation of the Volkswagen LT truck, which has been in production since 1975. Starting with its second generation, the LT/Crafter is a rebadged Mercedes Sprinter with a VW powertrain. Also sold by Daimler as the Mercedes Sprinter, Freightliner Sprinter and Dodge Sprinter, the Crafter officially replaced the 31 year old LT nameplate, although it is known as the LT3 as its production plant code.
Its major European competitors include the Opel Movano/Renault Master/Nissan NV400, Ford Transit, Fiat Ducato/Citroën Jumper/Peugeot Boxer and Iveco Daily.
