Voice of Russia (Russian: Голос России) is an international multimedia broadcasting service sponsored by the Russian government. VoR is a global multilingual information platform providing both radio and website information services, geared toward a wide range of listeners and readers with a general interest in Russia and its relations with the world. VoR's goal is to offer the most comprehensive and concise view of political, economic, social, and cultural events underway in Russia and around the world.
The Voice of Russia was the first radio station to broadcast internationally. On the air since October 29, 1929, VoR has been shaping Russia’s image worldwide and introducing Russia to the world and highlighting its opinions on global events.
VoR broadcasts on the Internet in 33 languages and is visited by thousands of people on all the continents on a daily basis. Visitors can choose from news, on-line reports, interviews and comments, and multimedia content.
VoR radio service broadcasts in 32 languages, for a total of 179 hours a day, in the FM band, on medium and short waves, via satellite and through global mobile communications network. In 2003 VoR was among the major international radio broadcasters to launch daily broadcasts to Europe in Digital Radio Mondiale and Digital Audio Broadcasting.
VoR programs are broadcast to the United States through satellite channels of the global network, by cable, in the FM band, and through mobile communication platforms in 16 U.S. states. VoR is among the world's top five radio broadcasters which include the BBC, the Voice of America, Deutsche Welle and Radio France International. According to a survey carried out by International Media Help (Switzerland) among radio listeners in 50 countries, VoR occupies the third place by the number of its listeners.
The Voice of Russia is a member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), International Committee on Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM), and International Radio and TV Union (URTI). Also, VoR is a member of the National Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters, and the Conference of International Broadcasters’ Audience Research. In April 2012 The Voice of Russia applied for membership in the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB). Many Voice of Russia programs have won the Radiomania Russian national award. In 2008 Voice of Russia won the Runet Prize.
