Vital Idol is a compilation of remixed singles from Billy Idol's first three albums. Peaking at number 10 on the Billboard 200, the album was supported by a live single version of "Mony Mony".

The album, sporting a photo from the "Dancing with Myself" video was originally released in Europe in 1985. It was 24 bit digitally remastered and expanded to feature the remix of "To Be a Lover" and reissued globally in 2002. This time, a photo from the live video for "Mony Mony" was used as the album cover. The album has been certified by BPI and RIAA platinum.

Famous quotes containing the words vital and/or idol:

The poet sings how the blood flows in his veins. He performs his functions, and is so well that he needs such stimulus to sing only as plants put forth leaves and blossoms.... His song is a vital function like breathing, and an integral result like weight.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Its idea of “production value” is spending a million dollars dressing up a story that any good writer would throw away. Its vision of the rewarding movie is a vehicle for some glamour-puss with two expressions and eighteen changes of costume, or for some male idol of the muddled millions with a permanent hangover, six worn-out acting tricks, the build of a lifeguard, and the mentality of a chicken-strangler.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)
