Location

Vitagraph's first office was in Lower Manhattan, on the corner of Nassau St. and Beekman St. where they shot their first film, The Burglar On the Roof, on the roof of the building in 1897. They subsequently opened the first modern film studio in the US, built in 1906, at the corner of East 14th St and Locust Ave (near Avenue M) in the Midwood secion of Brooklyn. They created a second film studio in Santa Monica, California in 1911, and a year later moved to a twenty-nine acre sheep ranch on Prospect st. in Hollywood
