A virtual private database or VPD masks data in a larger database so that security allows only the use of apparently private data. Separate sites, departments and/or individuals transparently see and manipulate data specific to their needs and to their security classifications. The implementation by Oracle of this concept actually applies some extra filtering conditions to the query issued by the database user.
Famous quotes containing the words virtual and/or private:
“Neither dead nor alive, the hostage is suspended by an incalculable outcome. It is not his destiny that awaits for him, nor his own death, but anonymous chance, which can only seem to him something absolutely arbitrary.... He is in a state of radical emergency, of virtual extermination.”
—Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
“I fear the popular notion of success stands in direct opposition in all points to the real and wholesome success. One adores public opinion, the other, private opinion; one, fame, the other, desert; one, feats, the other, humility; one, lucre, the other, love; one, monopoly, and the other, hospitality of mind.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
