Famous quotes containing the words violent, crime and/or country:
“There may be in the cup
A spider steeped, and one may drink, depart,
And yet partake no venom, for his knowledge
Is not infected; but if one present
Thabhorred ingredient to his eye, make known
How he hath drunk, he cracks his gorge, his sides,
With violent hefts. I have drunk, and seen the spider.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Almost all crime is due to the repressed desire for aesthetic expression.”
—Evelyn Waugh (19031966)
“If there is a gratification which I envy any people in this world it is to your country [Italy] its music. This is the favorite passion of my soul, and fortune has cast my lot in a country where it is in a state of deplorable barbarism.”
—Thomas Jefferson (17431826)
