Famous quotes containing the word history:

Those who weep for the happy periods which they encounter in history acknowledge what they want; not the alleviation but the silencing of misery.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism.... Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

All history is a record of the power of minorities, and of minorities of one.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
