The Orchestra and The Holocaust
The Holocaust affected the Orchestra, like many others in Europe. In May 1935, when the Orchestra visited London and performed at the Queen's Hall, the two concertmasters, lead violinists were Arnold Rosé and Julius Stwertka. Rosé, a Jew, left the orchestra and escaped to London, while Stwertka died in the Theresienstadt concentration camp on 17 December 1942.
