Reception
Following her audition before series creator Agnes Nixon, director David Pressman, and executive producer Doris Quinlan, Quinlan remarked to After Noon TV magazine of Slezak, "You've got to meet this girl—she's going to be a star."
Since her initial introduction in the role of Viki, actress Erika Slezak has since been regarded as one of the preeminent actresses in daytime television, often compared to the likes of fellow contemporary actress Meryl Streep for her acting range, versatility, and numerous award nominations. Slezak has received nine Daytime Emmy Award nominations in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress for her portrayal of Viki, winning in 1984, 1986, 1992, 1995, 1996, and 2005. She currently holds the record for most Emmy wins and nominations by an actress. She also garnered the Soap Opera Digest Award for Favorite Couple with co-star Mark Derwin (Ben Davidson) in 2000.
In 2002, in recognition for her work on OLTL, Slezak was inducted as a member of the Silver Circle of the central chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for over a quarter-century of "significant contributions" to television.

First he sends a dispatch about Danzig and how 10,000 German tourists are pouring into the city every day with butterfly nets in their hands and submachine guns in their knapsacks. They warn him right then. What does he do next? Goes to a reception at von Ribbentropfs and keeps yelling for gefilte fish!”
—Billy Wilder (b. 1906)
