Victor Willis - Solo Career

Solo Career

Since leaving Village People, Willis had declined offers to record and he consistently refused to perform any of his Village People hits. In 2007, after an absence of 28 years, Willis returned to the stage and began preliminary performances for an international comeback tour planned for 2009. However, in July 2008, he underwent a successful operation at a San Diego hospital to remove benign nodules from his vocal cords, forcing a postponement of the tour.

In 2010, he appeared at several Major League Baseball stadiums, performing The Star-Spangled Banner and leading the crowd for the traditional Y.M.C.A. 7th-inning stretch break.

In 1979, Willis recorded a solo album which remained unreleased for over 30 years. The album, Solo Man, will finally be released in 2012. His autobiography is also scheduled for release the same year.

Famous quotes containing the words solo and/or career:

All mothers need instruction, nurturing, and an understanding mentor after the birth of a baby, but in this age of fast foods, fast tracks, and fast lanes, it doesn’t always happen. While we live in a society that provides recognition for just about every life event—from baptisms to bar mitzvahs, from wedding vows to funeral rites—the entry into parenting seems to be a solo flight, with nothing and no one to mark formally the new mom’s entry into motherhood.
    Sally Placksin (20th century)

Whether lawyer, politician or executive, the American who knows what’s good for his career seeks an institutional rather than an individual identity. He becomes the man from NBC or IBM. The institutional imprint furnishes him with pension, meaning, proofs of existence. A man without a company name is a man without a country.
    Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)
