Lake was one of the models for the animated character of Jessica Rabbit in the 1988 film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", especially for her hairstyle. In the 1997 film L.A. Confidential (based on James Ellroy's 1990 novel), Kim Basinger won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of a prostitute who is a Veronica Lake look-alike, and who, in one of the book's and film's signature lines, is complimented by a police officer who tells her, "You look better than Veronica Lake".

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

For those that love the world serve it in action,
Grow rich, popular and full of influence,
And should they paint or write, still it is action:
The struggle of the fly in marmalade.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
